Get ready to get spooked—did you know the Garden State is full of mysterious historical hauntings? Whether they are real or urban legends, discover the truth on one of New Jersey’s ghost tours, which visit a few inexplicable, actively spirited spots. Learn about the haunted history of Woodbridge, Asbury Park, and Cape May, where you can use your imagination (and perhaps see a ghostly apparition) while you hear about the mysterious ghosts and their stories. Scroll down for these ominous tours, many of which are open to all ages (though some have scary extras that might not be suitable for littles), but if you want something more family-friendly, check out other ways to celebrate Halloween in New Jersey, too. North Jersey Ghost Tours

Haunted Chester “Lore and Legends” – October 4
Take a 55-minute family-friendly tour where you will encounter ghosts, vampires, and a haunted history. Group tours depart every 15 minutes, so make sure to grab your tickets in advance.

Haunted Bernardsville “We’re Back!” – October 11
The haunts come alive in Bernardsville during this family-friendly tour, where the spirits weave stories of illustrious members of the Bernardsville community from years past. Meet the local legends of the afterworld as they guide you through this spine-tingling adventure with re-enactments in spirited spots throughout town.

Haunted Somerville “Legends of the Devil State!” – October 18

Bernards Township in northern New Jersey is home to the infamous Devil’s Tree, and the Pine Barrens are home to the Jersey Devil. Discover the rich lore and legends of the state on this one-of-a-kind, fascinating, and frightening journey.

Asbury Ghosts – Select dates
See a different side of the Asbury Park nightlife as the haunts come out to play, where you’ll hear the eerie tale of Tillie, the infamous painted face that watches over the Wonder Bar with an unsettling grin. Discover how this funhouse-style mural might be more than paint on a wall—with a notorious habit of winking at unsuspecting passersby. You’ll also hear stories about Asbury Lanes, the Berkeley Oceanfront Hotel, and the Paramount Theatre, all with illustrious pasts and haunted accounts.

Allaire Historical Village Night of Frights and Allaire Ghost Tours – Select dates from October 10-26
One of the more eerie ghost tours in New Jersey is the unassuming Allaire Village at night. Bring the family, but be warned—some scenes and live actors may be too scary for littles. Watch out for live ghosts and goblins, the Carriage House with legendary spirits, and the towering four-story shadows of the General Store (BOO!).

Haunted History Tour Bordentown – Select dates from now through October 31
Learn about the haunting history tales of Bordentown with a family-friendly tour of Bordentown. Hear the ghost stories, paranormal experiences, legends, and historical events reported in Bordentown throughout the centuries.

Jersey Shore Ghost Tours – Select dates from September through October
Explore the outerworldly stories of Monmouth County, where the spirits of pirates and rumrunners come alive in Keyport, or meet the resident ghost of Dublin House in Redbank.

Official Flemington Ghost Walk – Select dates from now to October 31
Take a tour guided by real paranormal investigators, where you’ll hear their personal stories with spirits and apparitions on this 15-stop tour. See everything from Stangl Road to Turntable Junction to Main Street in Flemington.

Paranormal Tower Tours – Dates vary depending on the tour that you choose
With The Original Asbury Park Ghost Tour, you’ll uncover secrets of the Jersey Shore. You can also try the Boardwalk Tour, where you stroll along the sea in the moonlight to learn about a doomed luxury liner that once sailed off the coast. For an adult’s night out, take a tour through the city’s most historic—and haunted—pubs while enjoying (drinking) spirits.

Princeton Tour Company – Guided Ghost Tour, Ghost Hunt & Cemetery Visit – October 17-31
Shh, this tour company has a key to the locked cemetery and employs real ghost equipment to uncover the spirits in historic Princeton. Leave the littles at home because things can get sometimes graphic. Don’t forget to bring your own flashlight.

White Hill Mansion – Select dates in August-October
This mansion, situated on a bluff overlooking the Delaware River, has been a Lenape winter settlement and a Revolutionary War site in an area with a rich history of American inventors and innovators. Take a daytime tour, candlelight tour, or private investigation experience.

South Jersey Ghost Tours

Atlantic City Ghost Tour – Nightly year-round
Explore the Warner Theatre, which opened at the end of the Roaring Twenties, learn about the floating man in Caesar’s Atlantic City, or hear more about the pre-Civil War history at Bally’s during this ghostly excursion.

Embark on a family-friendly haunted walk through the Cold Spring Village. There will also be craft vendors and food trucks.

Ghost Capers Haunted Cape May Ghost Tour – Select evenings from May through November
Discover the stories behind the closed doors in the historic homes and hotels of Cape May, where strange bumps in the night, pale apparitions, and unexplained activity have happened. This tour focuses on history, not horror, so bring the whole family.

Ghosts of Cape May by MAC – Various tours and dates
Explore the supernatural history of Cape May with a ghoulish menu of some of the best and most interactive ghost tours in New Jersey. Try the Ghosts of Cape May Trolley Tour if you want to sit back and listen to spooky stories on a scenic trolley. Fans of haunted houses? Try the Cherry House Haunting Tales Tour or the Historic Haunts House Tour and learn about the unusual and paranormal. Or take the Spirits, Oddities & Obsessions Trolley Tour around to a look at the macabre side of Victorian Cape May.

Ghosts By The Coast – Select dates now through November 9
Discover the darker side of Ocean City, America’s Favorite Family Resort, through a combination of humor and horror on this family-friendly tour. Meet at Mark Soifer Park after dark and take a tour of spots where paranormal activity is known to occur. The tour takes 90 minutes with about 1.5 miles of walking, and you can buy tickets ahead of time (prime times do sell out).

Historical Society of Haddonfield Haunted Walking Tours – Select dates in October
These haunted journeys throughout October show a haunted side to the charming town of Haddonfield. The popular walking tours are based on a Haunted Haddonfield series of books, with stories and legends about haunted sites throughout the town.

Historical Society of Moorestown Living History and Ghost Tour – Select dates from October 11-26
Take an October evening stroll to learn about Moorestown’s history, mystery, and ghosts. The interactive journey includes visits from colonial spirits, Revolutionary soldiers, and voices from centuries past.

Mount Holly Tours – Select dates from September to October
Mount Holly has two options, whether you are looking for a historical walking tour or a haunted history tour. Families are welcome, as the ghost stories retell local legends and historical events without being too scary.
