Hoboken & Stevens Unite to Take Back the Night

  • April 10, 2017

Take Back the Night

For over 45 years in the United States, Take Back the Night has aimed to eradicate sexual and domestic violence through its non-profit organization. Through events held at colleges, shelters and rape centers, Take Back the Night has been a driving force in our country in the fight to end sexual and domestic assault. This year, on April 18th, the city of Hoboken is teaming up with Stevens Institute of Technology to hold their third annual Take Bake the Night event.

“It’s time to stand up and speak out”

Starting at 7:00pm, Take Back the Night will consist of an emotional ceremony backed by a strong community. As one of the voices of this event, Chief Medical Officer, Meika Roberson, says, “Please join us and support Hoboken in this powerful event. It’s time to stand up and speak out.” See below for a timeline of the night:

7:00pm: Meet on Davis Lawn of Stevens Institute in front of Walker Gym
7:30pm: March to Pier A while chanting
7:40pm: Candlelight Vigil and moment of silence at pier
7:45pm: Speeches featuring Mayor Dawn Zimmer, survivors and Stevens’ students as well as a performance by the President’s Ensemble

Take Back The Night Foundation

Take Back The Night is a non-profit organization currently promoting sexual violence awareness in over 30 countries. With rallies, marches and vigils serving as part of their movement, they believe there can be an end to this horrible issue. Another part of the organization, Take Back The Night Foundation was founded in 2001. While sexual violence against women is still a priority, Take Back The Night Foundation has expanded to incorporate all types of violence. To learn more about the foundation see their website.
